Measuring results

Every engagement starts by recording where you are today, in your own numbers, so we can both see what changed.

How it works

How we measure success

  1. Start with today’s numbersBefore any coaching, I write down where things stand right now.
  2. Your own numbersYour reviews, sales system and calendar. Not a score I invent.
  3. Check again laterI measure the same things again, so the comparison is fair.
  4. No made-up promisesI won’t guarantee a result. I’ll show you clearly what moved.

What I track

What owners already care about

I pick the few that matter most to your business, not a long list of numbers you’ll never look at.

Sales leaders, founders and partners

Sales Coaching

Meetings booked each week come first. Then decision makers reached, replies to outreach, second meetings, and pipeline and close rate.

Restaurants, retail and service businesses

The First Impression Audit

Your Google and Yelp reviews come first. Then repeat visits, average check, tips per shift, how the phone is answered, and how long your people stay.

Event hosts, associations and owner groups

Talks and Events

Feedback right after the event comes first. Then the conversations it starts with the leaders in the room, and who comes back next time.

The outside signal

Public reviews

Your Google and Yelp reviews are what the next customer reads before they ever call. At the start I record your ratings, how many reviews you have, and what reviewers mention most. I look again as the work goes on.

A bump in new reviews is often the earliest sign that guests are noticing. The overall rating takes longer to move, so I read reviews alongside your own numbers. And they have to be earned: no paying for reviews, and no asking only your happiest customers. Better service is what moves them.

The research

Why first impressions pay

What the research says about repeat guests, reputation and what customers will do after a bad experience.

7% to 50%

Up to half of a restaurant’s order volume can come from just 7 percent of its guests. Nearly half of diners said being remembered is what makes them feel most valued, and only 30 percent said they always are.

Produced by restaurant technology companies from their own data.

5 to 9% more revenue

A one-star increase in a restaurant’s Yelp rating was associated with 5 to 9 percent more revenue.

Still the leading study on reviews and revenue, though the data is older. The effect held for independent restaurants, not chains.

34%

of consumers cut their spending with a company after a bad experience, and fewer than 1 in 3 tell the company about it.

Why sales coaching pays

Published research on coaching and sales performance.

48% to 63%

of reps met quota at companies with a dynamic sales process and a positive coaching culture, compared with those with neither.

CSO Insights, presented by Barry Trailer, 2013. Source

Two things differ between the groups, process and coaching, so it isn’t proof that coaching alone caused it.

Before and after, as I earn them

Hirsch Advisory is new. As engagements finish, I’ll share before-and-after results here, with each owner’s permission.

Next step

Start with a short conversation

Tell me what you’re trying to accomplish and where you feel you’re falling short. If you aren’t sure yet, that’s a fine place to start. The first conversation is about 30 minutes, it’s free, and I’ll tell you honestly whether I can help.
