Leading the Room

Strategy for the events that build relationships, from curated private dinners and VIP receptions to evenings for 600. Talks, too, for associations and owner groups.

Rooms I’ve led

Curated private dinners, client dinners, VIP receptions and private outings, up to the ACG Orange County Business Awards, where I was lead chair of the 28th annual event, co-chair of the 27th, and spoke throughout the evening. I also founded the chapter’s annual golf tournament.

The size changes. What people remember doesn’t: who greeted them, who they met, and why they come back.

Event strategy

Hosting a client dinner, a VIP reception or a larger evening? One working session before it covers who is in the room, how the evening flows, and what guests should say the next morning. You and your team run it from there. I don’t run events.

Talks

Talks run 20 to 45 minutes for association meetings, owner groups and company events, tailored to your audience, with Q&A and time with the room afterward. Topics include:

  • First Ten Seconds. Cold calls, gatekeepers and the opening that earns the next minute
  • The Verdict. What people say about your business when you aren’t in the room, and how to change it
  • Remember people. What a valet stand taught me about what customers pay for
  • Selling while serving. Growing a book of business while still doing the client work

Ways to engage

Every engagement is scoped to your business. After our free first conversation, I send a written proposal with a fixed price before any work begins.

Event Strategy Session

One working session

Before your dinner, reception or larger event: who is in the room, how the evening flows, and what guests should say the next morning. You and your team run it from there.

Next step

Start with a short conversation

Tell me what you’re trying to accomplish and where you feel you’re falling short. If you aren’t sure yet, that’s a fine place to start. The first conversation is about 30 minutes, it’s free, and I’ll tell you honestly whether I can help.
